June 25, 2009, was a sorrowful day in America and the world at large, it seemed to be a rumor but it was an accomplished fact. This day, the world lost a gem, an enigma and a Machiavellian celebrity loved by all and sundry; Michael Joseph Jackson, also known as the king of pop kissed the dust. His death poured a lot of grief and sorrow on the heart of music lovers and the entire Americans.

His death seemed controversial as they were scrupulous prosecutions and legal battles with his personal doctors but it was just the act of god. No soul shall evade death, death is inevitable.  Michael Jackson popularly called the king of pop, was a famous and renowned American writer, songwriter, music producer, dancer, actor and philanthropist. He has contributed immensely to the music industry, fashion and dance; these has kept him above board four over 4 decades.

The king of pop was born august 28, 1958, taking the eighth position out of 10, of the Joe Jackson family. He started his music career professionally in 1964 with his elder brothers, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marion as member of his group, Jackson 5. He came to limelight in early 1980s; he stunned the world with his sonorous voice and his mind blowing dance steps that became a major step amongst dancers till date, the moon walk and the robot dance step. He released copious songs and albums. Thriller is the best-selling album of all time, with estimated sales of over 65 million copies sold worldwide.

His achievement was fulsome, he won several awards and honors including multiple Guinness world records, 13 Grammy awards, the Grammy legend award, the Grammy lifetime achievement award, 26 American music awards, artist of the century, artist of the  1980s and many more. He was well known and respected throughout his life time and after his death. Michael Jackson won hundreds of award, making him the most awarded artist in the history of popular music. Also, he was the first artist in history to have a top ten single on the billboard hot 100 in five different decades when his popular single, “love never felt so good” reached number nine on May 21, 2014, 5 years after his demise. He has travelled far and wide around the world attending events honoring his humanitarianism; in 2000, the Guinness world records recognized him for supporting 39 charities. No entertainer has ever done this in the history of the world.

Another remarkable but controversial aspect of his life was the change in his skin color and change in the shape of his face, particularly his nose; this went viral and created a lot of controversies about him. He publicly denounced the rumour of the bleaching of his skin color, he said he had not purposely bleached his skin but had used makeup to blend up his skin tone.

Michael Jackson dropped dead on June 25, 2009 at the age of 51 in his rented mansion in Holmby hills, Los Angeles under the care of his personal physician. Prior to the halt of his breathe, he had been administered Propofol, Lorazepam and Midazolam after an acute cardiac arrest. Attempts to resuscitate him was futile, a call was put through to the Los Angeles fire department paramedics at 12:22pm, just three minutes after the culmination of the call, the officers arrived. He was rushed to the Ronald Reagan UCLA medical center and for more than an hour after arriving there at 1:13pm efforts was made to reclaim his life but all fell through. His dead was declared at 2:26pm. This threw the world to an emotional debacle; he was mourned worldwide.  His memorial took place on July 7, 2009 at Staples center in Los Angeles. His casket was present at the memorial but no information was disclosed about the final deposition of his body till date. His body was entombed in September 3, 2009 at forest lawn memorial park in Glendale, California.       

Above all, Michael Jackson lives on; his legacies are unforgettable and still celebrated till date. Long live the king of pop!
