Why should I pray?

Probably you have been chased around severally to pray, or you have been admonished to pray and you keep wondering in your heart, why should I pray? I have all I need, I don’t lack anything, I’m healthy etc so why should I pray? This article will shed more light on why you need to pray.
God created man in order to fellowship with man, after creating everything, he had to create one in his own image so that he can come down to fellowship with him, my first point will be:

1. To fellowship with God: We need to pray in order to fellowship with God, to commune with him. This your cannot do from afar. Your spirit man needs to be connected, linked with God in order to enjoy the fellowship with him.

To fellowship with a person is a connection in the spirit, and God is a spirit John 4:24 so your spirit man must be healthy enough in order to sustain the fellowship.

And in order to enjoy this fellowship you have to come to God in prayer very frequently, (more reasons why you have to pray) from coming daily to commune with God, you build yourself up, and infact God by himself will remind you anyday you probably forget to pray or get occupied with activities.

2. You will become a friend of God: have you ever thought about how friendship is formed? It’s as a result of communication. Communication is the backbone of friendship, so also prayer makes you a friend of God as a result of continuous communication.

John 15:15 KJV
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

3. To know the mind of God: Abraham was a man who fear God and fellowshipped with him very frequently, he can be called a friend of God. Take a look at the verse below:

Genesis 18:17 KJV
And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

Only a person who has grown with the lord can have such access to the mind of God. They have communicated over time that God has now seen him as a gist partner.
Prayer will help you get it.
As a result of this access to God’s mind he will show you things to come just like he did to Abraham concerning Sodom and Gomorrah

4. To have all your needs met:
When you pray, you make your requests known to God.

Philippians 4:6 KJV
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Prayer is the way to make your request known

5. To tell God how much you love him:
Why won’t you confess your love to God?? He has done so much for you that if you are to pay for it, you won’t be able to do so. Is it about his protection, preservation, provision, breath of life, food you eat, salvation of your soul, favour obtained etc
How many of these can you give to yourself without his help?
So you need to pray in order to tell him how much you love him for sending his son to die for you, for keeping you alive etc

6.To thank him: living a life of Thanksgiving is a cheap way to getting your needs met. Thanksgiving is an application for more. If you receive without acknowledging it, or saying thank you, you won’t get a perfection of your blessings. Consider the story of the 10 lepers in Luke 17, Jesus Christ cleansed them but only one thought it wise to come back and say thank you Lord. And so he got a perfection to his healing

Luke 17:17-19 KJV
And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? [18] There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. [19] And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Do you know that God wants us to tell him thank you? Yes, you really need to thank him, he has done so much beyond what we even deserve, so if you withhold your Thanksgiving you are an ingrate.

7.You might also pray to ask for forgiveness of sins:
Never should you run away from God because you committed sin, rather Go to him and ask for forgiveness, he won’t send you away, he will be glad to embrace you back into his fold.

John 6:37 KJV
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
So, don’t allow sin take you away from God, rather trace your steps back to him and he will cleanse you with the blood of Jesus Christ.

Shalom!!!
