Whose Servant Are You?

_Jesus had a conversation with the Jews in John 8, and in verse 32 of it, He said to them; “and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:32 KJV

When Jesus said this to them, they responded back the way they always do to Him and said to Jesus in the next verse, in John 8:33, They answered him, _”We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?”_

The Jews thought being the descendants of Abraham is a guarantee for their total freedom, for that reason, they never saw or imagine themselves being in bondage to any man or anything, but Jesus, knowing that, though, they might not be in bondage to any man but they were certainly in bondage to something else which they do not realize was bondage replied in verse 34 to what they said in verse 33, the bible says, _*Jesus answered them, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.”*_

The Jews didn’t know that sin is a master of it’s own, always looking for servants. They have never been in bondage to any man being the descendants of Abraham, but they were all born sinners and live in sin from their birth, that means from the time they were born they’ve been slaves to sin. So Jesus told them, anyone who commits sin is a servant of sin.

What Jesus said does not apply to the Jews alone, it applies to those of us who live today. Like the Jews are descendants of Abraham, We who are born again are also the seed of Abraham, meaning that both the Jews and we the non-Jew but who have become spiritual Jew and children of Abraham by our faith in Jesus Christ and what He had done for us have Abraham as our Father, only day we are not sinners by nature as they were, the reason being that we have been washed in the precious blood of Jesus, and born a new creation.

By the virtue of our new birth, we are free from sin, but anyone who continues to sin is a servant of sin; so if I may ask, whose servant are you? You might be a born again Christian truly, but confessing Jesus Christ as Lord doesn’t mean that sin will go away from you; sin is a master of it’s own who is always looking for slaves, and as people yield themselves to sin, they make themselves slaves to sin even though they’ve once confessed Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Now I want you to answer this question with all sincerity, _”whose servant are you?”_

Don’t say you are servant of Jesus Christ when you know you sin in the secret when no man is seeing you. Don’t say what you do doesn’t really matter as long as you ask for forgiveness, go to Church, remain active in the Church, pay your tithe, and give to the poor; sin is sin whether big or small, and as long as you continue to sin, you make yourself it’s slave. Whose servant really are you? Do you serve sin or you serve righteousness? Being a servant of sin is being a servant of the devil, while being servant of righteousness is being servant of God, so whose servant are you? You have to sincerely answer this question if you don’t want it to keep popping up in your heart or stand against you in judgement; _”whose servant are you?”_ I’ll leave you with this scripture, Romans 6:16 in different versions:

_Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

_Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves to anyone to do his will, you are the slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness (right doing and right standing with God)? (AMPC)_

_Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.
