When To Be Alone With God

The Living Bread | Pastor Abraham David

✝ Genesis 32:24
“And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.”

Many of us are familiar with the story of Jacob who became Israel. Before the encounter that led to the change of his name, he was Jacob and Jacob means ‘a swindler’ or ‘a heel grabber,’ someone who grabs the heel of another, which was what he did to his twin brother when they were born: Esau came out of their mother’s womb first, but Jacob grabbed his heel, meaning, I won’t let you go or take the blessing away, which I believe was what happened when he deceitfully stole Esau’s blessing.

After spending about twenty years serving Laban, God told him to return to his own place but on his way back home, he got the news that Esau was coming to meet him so he new it was a serious matter because of what he did to Esau in the past which was hunting him. Jacob thought in his heart that Esau would kill him, but he was smart to know the right thing to do, he had learnt to be alone with God sometimes.

The verse we read said, “And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.” The man who wrestled with him was not a mortal man, but a spirit being, an angel of God sent to him by God, but being alone made it possible for the angel of God to come to him which was what led to his change of name and victory. The time the angel of God came to him, it was heaven intervening in his matter. This is something many of us who are God’s children have not learnt to do, how to be alone with God, so, instead of being alone with God when there is a serious matter, many resolve to going public on social media or to men for help as if social media or men have the power to help us; without the help of God, no man can help you; except God intervene for you, no man and no social media can bring about the desired change.

Until you learn to go to God in your secret to discuss your problems with Him, the problems will never go away. When any man or an enemy is against you, it is not wisdom to start going from place to place discussing it with people, the best thing to do is to go to God and table the matter before Him, this is the only secret to enjoying victorious life everyday. Jacob was left alone and that same night he got his victory; it was because of what happened that night that Esau’s mind was changed and couldn’t do anything to harm Jacob. If you would learn to be alone, the change you desire would manifest after an encounter with God, therefore, learn to be alone with God.

Confession
My precious Father, you are my rock, my salvation, my defender, and the lifter of my head; in you I have the victory, in you I have all that I need, with you, nothing can work against me because you cause things, including men to work in my favour, hallelujah to your name Father, in Jesus name. Amen.
