The Purpose of Marriage (5 Reasons to Marry)

Genesis 2:24 KJV
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Marriage is the coming together of a man and a woman in holy matrimony. It is a beautiful thing for people to be legally married, but people abuse it, in this article I will list a few reasons marriage was established.

God himself established marriage in the beginning, after he created Adam, He said it is not good that a man be alone and so he gave him Eve as wife. (Genesis 2:18) So God is the pioneer of marriage

What is the purpose of marriage?

1. For companionship
God never created anyone to be a lone ranger, you need friends and it will get to a stage you will need someone who is more than a friend to you, marriage will help fill that space. The coming together of a man and woman in holy matrimony is also for companionship. You have someone who you can tell all your heart to, share your good and bad moments together and live happily.

2. To help eachother
Adam was doing fine alone, but he still needed a help meet (Genesis 2:18), you can’t do everything all alone, hence the need for marriage, what one person will achieve in three years can be achieved in less than three years if they are two the Bible says one shall chase a thousand and two shall put ten thousand to flight. This means you achieve more results than when single.

3. To shapen each other’s character
There are certain things you might not have noticed about yourself, but when you get a partner, he or she will see aspects of you that needs alignment and such should be corrected in love. You are expected to get better in marriage because both of you should be focused on working on eachother to bring out the best in eachother. The Bible says in Proverbs 27:17 KJV
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

4. To raise godly children

Psalm 127:3 KJV
Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord : and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

Children adds colour to the home, every couple desires to have children. And the way you raise your children determines who they will be in the future. Marriage is meant to raise godly children who also will in return influence their peers and the society at large.

5. To build each other’s vision together

Ecclesiastes 4:9 KJV
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.

Marry someone who supports your vision/calling, someone who believes in your ability. With this, you get support from your partner, and the Bible says can two work together except they agree? Marriage is meant to help you see your dreams and visions manifest because having a partner makes it easier for two of you to reason together and get things done easily.

Do not marry for the wrong reason, and don’t rush into marriage, ensure you have a good intention before going into marriage.
