DEVELOPING THE RIGHT PERSPECTIVE TO LIFE

TOPIC: DEVELOPING THE RIGHT PERSPECTIVE TO LIFE

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4: 18. While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Beloved, I welcome you to another Moment of Daily Encounter with the word of Grace! Yesterday, we consider the subject of what is it that drives your life. Today, we want to look at life and how to develop the right perspective to life.

We must understand that our perspective to life is based on our definition of life! And our definition of life to a large extent shapes our character and determines our pursuit on earth. Therefore we shall consider definition of life from two perspectives.

What is life?

A. Conventional view : The conventional views people hold about life to a large extent determines their pursuit.

While some see life as a journey from birth to death, others see life as a battle field, so they are ready for battles everyday. To some it is a game of numbers. Some see it as a puzzle, and to some life is a race etc.

B. Traditional view: Besides, conventional view is traditional view of life! In traditional view people run their lives based on tradition that is handed over to them without knowing the rationale behind those tradition.

They run their marriage based on tradition without knowing why they are doing what they do. It is quite unfortunate that most people including believers runs their lives by traditional view of life.

You will hear such people say according to our tradition; this and that is what must happened…. For example, in some tradition women are treated as second class citizen. If you don’t have a male child you are regarded as not having children! And yet believers in Christ Jesus subscribe to such tradition.

Beloved, it’s the view of life that you hold consciously or unconsciously, in your mind that determine your expectations/outcome of life. I mean how you live daily is a pointer to what philosophy you hold about life.

It influences your life more than you realize as it determines your expectations, your values, your goals and your relationships. However, the ideal definition of life should be from a biblical perspective.

C. Biblical view : The Bible which is our authority have following view of life:

1. Life is a vapour.
Why? you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.

What is your life?
You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
James 4:14 NIV

Beloved, when the chips are down, the reality of life being a vapour will get dawn on us! All your certificates will be forgotten in a flash when the clarion home call comes. If you understand this then set your heart on things of eternal value according to our anchor scripture (2Cor.4:18)! Take away your eyes from earthly things that can make you loose your eternal soul.

To develop a right perspective therefore shift from conventional view and traditional view of life to biblical view.

Assignment: Use today to re-examine your view of life. Are you seeing life from conventional or traditional perspective or from Bible point of view?

Prayer points:
– Father thank you for your word to me today.
